We Are Learning More Information About The Victims Of The Boulder Shooting
At the time of publishing for Tuesday’s article, there were still a lot of unknowns surrounding the shooting that took place in Boulder, Colorado on Monday afternoon. However, since then, there has been a lot of information released. With that in mind, let’s get straight into an update.
As mentioned in the original article, ten people were confirmed dead. The names and ages of the victims have now been released. The authorities have identified them as Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Eric Talley, 51; Teri Leiker, 51; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.
One of the victims, Eric Talley, was a police officer. He served on the force with the Boulder Police Department for about 10 years, starting in 2010. He was the first officer to respond to the shooting, and then was fatally shot. Talley was the father of seven children, but they certainly were not the only ones to mourn his passing. Dozens of other law enforcement agencies gathered for a procession of police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks at an intersection near the site of the shooting. President Biden even called Talley an American Hero.
Information has been released about the suspect, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. He is 21 years old and was living in Arvada, Colorado. Statements have come out from people who were a part of Alissa’s life, most of which said that he had anger issues and was mentally ill. His anger problems were very well known in his high school, where he assaulted another student in the middle of a class, seemingly out of nowhere. Reports do state that this student had been making fun of him using racist names. Three months later, he was convicted of third degree assault and was sentenced to probation and community service. Just two weeks before the attack on the Boulder grocery store, Alissa purchased a Ruger R-556 pistol, which can be compared as a smaller version of an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle. Reports say that he was carrying two firearms when he attacked the store, one rifle and one pistol. However, it is not yet known if that Ruger was one of the guns carried. His first court hearing is scheduled for this morning.
At this time, we are still left without a motive for the attack, along with a few other pieces of information. However, you can be assured that if there are more major updates, you will be able to read about them here in a future article.
