South Dakota Governor Noem

Governor Kristi Noem gave her State of the State Tuesday to propose her ideas for the state of South Dakota. Governor Noem addressed a handful of things in her address infrastructure, better funding for first responders and eliminating the bingo tax.

Governor Noem also addressed wanting to ban abortions after a heart beat is detected and another transgender sports law. Governor Noem also said she wants to ban critical race theory in schools.

Governor Noem wants to expand healthcare in the state by giving people that live in rural areas the chance to go to the doctors along with providing 1 million COVID-19 tests to be delivered all around the state each week.

Noem also spoke to the healthcare workers in the state saying ``we are sending you help “To our nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals: we are getting you more help. We’ve invited more healthcare professionals to come and live in South Dakota. We’ve made it possible for out-of-state licenses to be recognized so that they can get the right to work. And when they come here, they will have the opportunity to work for some of the greatest systems in the country,” Noem said.

Governor Noem also announced three tax cuts in the state, the first one being eliminating the tax that needs to be paid to renew business licenses. Noem also wants to remove the tax that needs to be paid to be able to retrieve a carry permit in the state. Finally the Governor wants to remove a tax that affects the elderly population which is a bingo tax.

Governor Noem is also proposing legislation that would protect South Dakota residents by allowing them to have medical and religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine.

Governor Noem is up for re-election in 2022 and she has filed to run again. Voters in South Dakota will go to the polls on June 7th for the primaries.
