RECAP: Connecticut State of the State
At the beginning of the new year Connecticut Governor delivered his first state of the state address since being re-elected. Governor Ned Lamont talked about his achievements at the top of his speech like having a balanced budget for all four years of his first term while paying down billions of dollars in debt.
In his speech throughout the speech whether he is asking for a billion-dollar investment in education or coming up with new housing for immigrants or current residents.
Governor Lamont encouraged the state lawmakers to work in lockstep to create another year’s balanced budget and compromise with each other. He told them to start by finding what they have in common and where they differ and try and meet in the middle.
Governor Lamont wants to get the 100,000 job vacancies filled by offering family-paid leave, a minimum wage that goes with inflation, and, providing free or reduced childcare for working families.
Governor Lamont also announced that from the bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed in November 2021, they are going to be able to rebuild the Gold Star Bridge.
Governor Lamont at the very end of the speech also announced the Connecticut state financial crisis is over which received large applause from both Democrats and Republicans.
