Governor Cuomo 4 Million Dollar Book Deal
The drastic fall of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo keeps getting worse as an impeachment investigation is well underway. There have been more than 200 tips received and more women coming forward with sexual assault allegations.
The latest scandal the Governor is facing is a four million dollar book deal he wrote last year called, American Crisis Leadership lessons from Covid-19. This book was written at the height of the pandemic in New York. It is alleged that Governor Cuomo, the highest non-elected official Melisa Derosa. Derosa was his assistant in writing, editing and selling the book in pitch meetings.
There is a general timeline from the reports for when all of this happened. The day before the nursing home death report came out, Derosa asked for the 224 page book draft to be printed and sent to the governor Mansion in Albany New York.
In regards to the nursing home deaths, the actual number did not come out until after the book was published and available for sale. From the report, New Yorkers learned approximately how many people died in nursing homes, which turned out to be thousands more than what the Cuomo administration originally said. According to the report released in October, approximately 12,000 people died in Nursing homes.
This book was also requested to be printed another time and brought to the Governor Mansion by Stephannie Benton. The original draft of the book obtained by The New York Times showed the Governor attacking New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, saying how his approval rating has never been higher than the Governor’s and how the Mayor is narcissistic. It’s unclear at this time about when this portion of the book was taken out and who pushed the Governor to take it out of the final draft.
Nearly 48,000 hard copies of the book were sold, according to NPD book scan. Governor Cuomo has denied to comment on the book deal or to specify how much he made from the book. His administration did say a large portion of the earnings will be donated to COVID-19 relief. The Governor has refused all allegations of the book being made on state time or using any of the state’s property. Melisa Derosa and Stephannie Benton say they volunteered to work on the book but not during work hours.
Andrew Cuomo, Democratic Governor of New York, is still not resigning from his position, and with an election year coming up for the Governor, there are many people he could possibly be running against, such as Representative Elese Stafonic, Republican from the 21st district. One thing we know for sure is Representative Lee Zeldin is running as a Republican candidate. At this time we aren’t even sure what is going to come of the impeachment investigation or if he plans to run in 2022.
