There have been countless talks about children younger than 12 being able to get the Covid-19 vaccine, but it still hasn’t been approved. Well that could change as soon as this week.

The FDA’s independent advisory panel is set to meet on the 26th, and one discussion expected to happen is the approval of a vaccine from Pfizer for children ages 5 to 11. It is said that we could see the approval from both the FDA and the CDC as early as this week.

With all of that being said, the White House has been developing a plan to get these vaccines rolled out as soon as they have been approved. Here’s what some of this plan looks like.

According to the White House, they have obtained 28 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine specifically intended for this age group. The distribution of these doses is expected to begin upon their approval.

The second part of this plan comes from the communication between coordinators and state, local and tribal leaders with the goal of getting their local pediatricians, pharmacists and community health clinics on board to administer the vaccine to this age group. According to the White House, they already have a high level of support from several different groups, some of which include: 25,000 pediatric offices and primary care offices, as well as over 100 children’s hospitals which will partner with tens of thousands of pharmacies and schools along with other community organizations.

The third part of this plan focuses on information. The Department of Health and Human Services will be rolling out a wide community information campaign to help children get the vaccine. This will also try to help parents make the best choices for their kids.

Again we must express that while this plan has been laid out, the vaccine for this age group has not yet been approved by the FDA or CDC. If you have any questions about the vaccine and if it is the right choice for your child, make sure to speak with your child’s pediatrician.
